Ben Stokes came to the fore for the first time with a brilliant century to guide Rajasthan Royals to victory over Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Capitals slipped up again, suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Shreyas Iyer’s men can still reach the playoffs but need to improve performances and quickly.

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals

Hyderabad collapsed in their last outing against Kings XI Punjab. David Warner’s men were in position to close out a victory after limiting Punjab to 126/7 and reaching 100/3 in the 16th over. However, Sunrisers lost seven wickets for only 14 runs to end the match in shocking scenes.

It has effectively ended their hopes of reaching the playoffs and epitomises their season to date. Warner and Rashid Khan were on point, but as ever there was a lack of support from the rest of the team. It will take something special from this point for Sunrisers to qualify.

Delhi’s hopes of securing top spot have taken a hit after losing back-to-back games. They slipped up against Kings XI and were blown away by Varun Chakravarthy and the Knight Riders in their last match.

Iyer is an excellent leader and has a quality bowling attack at his disposal, led by Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Norje. They’re too talented to drop three games on the bounce.

Back them to get back to winning ways and re-establish their charge for the IPL crown. The Capitals are our cricket tip of the week to win this one.

Mumbai Indians v Royal Challengers Bangalore

The Indians were undone in their last outing by a special innings from the Rajastan all-rounder, Ben Stokes. They put 195 on the board courtesy of a blistering half-century from Hardik Pandya and in normal circumstances, Mumbai would have been eyeing a comfortable victory.

However, Stokes was outstanding scoring his second T20 century in a partnership worth 152 with Sanju Samson. Mumbai’s bowlers had a game to forget, although Trent Boult, James Pattinson and Jasprit Bumrah have been excellent for most of the competition.

They were off the boil against Rajasthan, but those bowlers have too much talent and experience to let one poor game ruin a fine tournament. Unfortunately for the Indians, the superstar opposition keeps coming in the form of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. In RCB’s last match, Kohli’s half-century was in vain against the Chennai Super Kings in a poor defeat.

RCB struggled with both bat and ball and MS Dhoni’s men beat them comfortably. The contest against the defending Indian Premier League champions is a major test of their resolve and whether they can compete for the 2020 crown.

Kohli’s side won the meeting between the two sides earlier in the season in a Super Over, but we think the experience of Mumbai down the stretch might just give them the edge in this one.

Kolkata Knight Riders v Chennai Super Kings

The Knight Riders gave a glimpse of their championship credentials by blowing away the Capitals on Saturday. Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine were exceptional, scoring half-centuries to dispatch a talented bowling attack to all parts of the ground.

Pat Cummins then set the tone by removing Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan in his first two overs. Chakravarthy followed this by claiming his maiden five-wicket IPL haul to send his team cruising over the line. KKR have provided a hint of their ability, but they need to prove it with another win over an experienced CSK side.

The Super Kings dug out an impressive triumph over RCB. Ruturaj Gaikwad was excellent at the top of the order, while Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu were also solid with the bat. Sam Curran was the star of the show with the ball. The England man claimed figures of 3/19 to continue his impressive tournament.

Consistency has been the issue for Chennai this term, and it would not be a surprise to see them take a step back. They also became the first team guaranteed to miss out on a playoff spot, so focus may have slipped. The Knight Riders’ confidence should allow them to claim another win.

Rajasthan Royals v Kings XI Punjab

The Royals put forward a sublime effort to see off Mumbai last time out. They have been waiting on their key men to fire, and Stokes was outstanding to see off the defending champions. The England all-rounder was dominant at the crease, scoring 107 from only 60 balls with 14 fours and three sixes, while Samson was equally destructive in his approach.

With Jos Buttler and Steve Smith also in the ranks, Rajasthan can put massive scores on the board. They didn’t even need Buttler to overcome the Indians. That performance must be the standard from now on with the bat, as outside of Jofra Archer and Rahul Tewatia, the bowling has been average.

Kings XI were not at their best against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but were clinical when it mattered the most. Chris Jordan put the clamps on at the death to see his team over the line. Their batting ranks failed at the crease for once. Lokesh Rahul has been sensational batting at the top of the order and as a leader for his team. Expect him to get back in the runs and put Punjab on course for the post-season with a win over the Royals.

Kings XI just have the edge in the bowling ranks, while their batsmen have been more consistent, so we think they will claim the win.
