The first half of week five in the 2020 Indian Premier League has been full of drama.
Mumbai Indians were stunned by Kings XI Punjab, losing in a second Super Over. Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal saw their team over the line after both sides had missed opportunities to snatch the victory.
The Kolkata Knight Riders outduelled Sunrisers Hyderabad in another Super Over to strengthen their claim for a post-season place.
Delhi Capitals have the top spot for now, and we’ll break down their game against Punjab along with the other three remaining matches in week five below.

Kings XI have given their campaign some life at just the right time. Lokesh Rahul put on a clinic to guide them to victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore. The skipper was then on point against the Indians, although it required two Super Overs to secure the win.
It was a team triumph against Mumbai as Gayle and Agarwal knocked off the winning runs while Mohammad Shami and Chris Jordan were impressive with the ball to stymie the Indians. The two results have given them hope of mounting a late charge for the post-season.
Rahul is enjoying a dominant campaign with the bat, leading the way in the race for the Orange Cap. His form alone is a danger to the Capitals. In their last match, Delhi all-rounder Axar Patel put on a show in the final over to defeat Chennai Super Kings. Delhi required 17 from the last and Patel ended matters by smashing three sixes.
Shikhar Dhawan scored his first T20 century in the match, anchoring Delhi’s chase. The Capitals once again highlighted why they’re considered favourites for this year’s title at many cricket betting sites.
We think their bowling attack, featuring Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, will give them the edge against Kings XI and we back them to claim victory.

The Knight Riders held their composure despite coming under extreme pressure early in week five. David Warner almost dragged Hyderabad to victory in regulation against Kolkata, but he could only muster a single off the final ball to take the game to a Super Over.
KKR’s Lockie Ferguson took command in the Super Over, taking two wickets for just two runs. It allowed Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik to knock off the winning runs with ease. Kolkata have struggled for consistency in the tournament, but they could make a statement against RCB to edge their way towards the playoffs.
Ferguson’s impact cannot be understated, as he dominated in his first game. The New Zealand international could make all the difference for Morgan’s men as we approach the end of the season.
Bangalore were well beaten by Punjab earlier in the week, only to bounce back last time out against Rajasthan Royals. AB de Villiers played a special knock, scoring 55 from only 22 deliveries to drive his team to victory. RCB’s big guns are starting to fire with regularity, and it makes them very dangerous. Chris Morris also had another good day with the ball, producing figures of 4-26.
The two teams are closely matched, and it should be a great contest. However, the star power of RCB is hard to overlook, so they’re our tip to get the win.
Royal Challengers Bangalore To Beat Kolkata Knight Riders – 1.72 bet365
These two sides have struggled for form throughout the competition. The Royals have been disappointing considering the talent in their squad. Hyderabad have also underwhelmed, although they were close to pulling off an impressive win over Kolkata Knight Riders in their last match.
The Royals are struggling in both facets of the game. Their batting unit has not really performed, although skipper Steve Smith did score a half-century against RCB and Jos Butler scored a crucial unbeaten 70 in a winning effort in their last match.
Jofra Archer was off the boil against RCB, but he has been excellent otherwise. Rajasthan need more from the rest of their bowlers to ease the burden on the England man.
Sunrisers have endured similar problems in the campaign. Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson and Warner have all had solid tournaments. Bairstow and Warner have led from the front, but their side has lacked punch in the lower order.
Outside of Rashid Khan, Hyderabad’s bowlers have been poor, and it has allowed their opponents to see off the leg-spinner before attacking elsewhere. Rajasthan have more depth in their batting ranks, and we think it will make the difference in the match. We expect them to close out a win against Hyderabad.

At the start of the competition, the Super Kings earned revenge for their defeat to Mumbai in the 2019 Indian Premier League final. However, since then it has all gone wrong for Chennai.
MS Dhoni’s men would have been hopeful of competing for a post-season berth, at the least, after their opening-day win. They’re well off the pace, though, and unlikely to make a late charge for the playoffs.
Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu have all been impressive. However, there have been issues down the order and a lack of firepower in the closing overs.
Sam Curran and Shardul Thakur have produced good moments with the ball, but there has been little else from the rest of the bowling attack. They cannot afford another poor outing against Mumbai otherwise their IPL hopes are most likely over.
The Indians had a rare slip-up against Punjab, falling short in the first Super Over before Trent Boult was off form with the ball in the second. Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding in the match, but not even his brilliance could sneak his team over the line.
Any team can have an off day and it appears it was just one of those strange outings for Rohit Sharma’s men. We back them to return to title-contending form and they are our cricket tip of the week to take the victory over Chennai.
